Art for Sale
The paintings you find here are part of a current series I am working on.
These artworks are made with natural pigments ground by hand, botanical inks brewed from ancient recipes,
and methods practiced by painters long before synthetic colour existed.
The artworks are bespoke, completely original, and will never be reproduced as prints or NFTs.
Each one is signed in pencil (lower right corner) and leaves the studio with a Provenance Record
which is a handmade document of the pigments used,
so that you can see and touch the same rocks the colours came from.
A physical connection to the place of origin.
For centuries, painters travelled great distances for a single colour. Rembrandt sought a particular yellow ochre from Cyprus & the Renaissance artists used lapis lazuli ground from stone mined in Afghanistan.
The pursuit of rare earth pigments is as old as art itself.
In tthe studio I continue that tradition, sourcing ochres and natural earth pigments from specific places around the world, each one carrying the geological character of its origin.
When these colours meet on the paper, they bring with them the deep memory of different landscapes, different soils, different corners of the same earth.
