The Provenance Record
Every original work leaves the studio with a Provenance Record.
This is a handmade document of the pigments used, specifying which place they were found.
The Provenance Record contains physical samples of the actual rocks and earth materials
that were ground to make the colours in your painting.
Each sample is labelled with its country or area origin.
You can see the colours as they became paint, and touch the very same earth
that is now fixed permanently to your work.
It is, in the most literal sense, the geological biography of your painting.
The tradition of documenting pigment origins is as old as the apothecary itself, the merchants who supplied artists with their materials kept careful records of provenance, knowing that the quality and origin of a colour was inseparable from its value.
The apothecary Artist Provenance Record continues that tradition,
placing in your hands not just a beautiful and unique object of art
but also the story of where it came from.
No two Provenance Records are identical.
Like the works they accompany, each one is unrepeatable.
The Provenance Record is included with every original work as standard.
It is not an add-on, it is a beautiful component of what you are buying.
A connection to the colours of place.
